Distant neighbours

A cosmic distance separates us from our nearest stellar neighbours. Even the closest star system lies more than four light-years away, meaning the light we see tonight began its journey before a child starting school could finish it. In the vast architecture of the universe, that distance is both unimaginably small and impossibly large. We are close enough to sense that we are not alone among the stars, yet far enough that silence still surrounds us.

Distant Neighbours reflects on that quiet tension. When we look upward, we are looking outward and backward in time, sending questions into the dark: Who else is there? Are other minds also staring at their skies, wondering about us?

The painting imagines that moment of mutual curiosity across the abyss of space. Between worlds that may never meet, there might still exist a shared feeling: the fragile awareness of being small, conscious lights in a boundless night.
